This spring we are beginning a new way to connect with families and friends – Camp Coffees. We invite camp parents and their friends, as well as anyone else who would like to attend, to an informal coffee chat about parenting issues, child development and summer experiences for our children and, of course, the value of the residential summer camp experience for our children.

These informal coffees are a time to ‘connect’ with new parents and other ALCers who would like to share their parenting experiences and concerns as we all look to create the best life experiences for our children.

Our first coffee will be hosted by Ginny Biggar in Chevy Chase, MD on Monday, April 28th at 10am , followed by an evening ALC Gathering for all alum, current campers and anyone interested in attending ALC  at Emma deCamp’s home in DC that evening at 6pm.

Our next coffee will be in NYC at Emily Abernathy Jones’ home on Wednesday, April 30th at 9:45am and again followed by an evening ALC Gathering at Emily & Annie Blau’s  home in NYC at 5:30pm!

If you would like to attend one of these events, or know someone who would, please email us at and we will get the detailed information to you.

And, if you are interested in hosting a Camp Coffee in your area, we would love to come! Please email us at with your thoughts and we will consider coming to your town next!

With the recent loss of a family member and VERY VITAL member of the ALC family, it makes me realize how important we are to one another.  It brings me to my knees in thankfulness for everyone who has touched my life and the lives of others in this cherished ALC community.  I do have to admit, that I will be ever-more conscientious about saying good bye to each person who leaves my side; about how I treat others each time that I interact with them; about how to appreciate others and have them know how much I appreciate them; and how sadness sharpens our senses about the value of life.  I guess that a loss brings people together and gives us all the opportunity to re-connect and applaud the meaning of Our Greater Family – how blessed we all are to have one another.  What brings you to your knees; what leads you to make changes in your interactions with others; and how can you show your appreciation for others and have them realize your appreciation?  These are things that we pledge to ‘practice and live’ while at camp – thank you for the gifts of ALC families to the mosaic of life.
