Before dinner each evening, we ask everyone in camp to take 15 seconds to think about those things for which they are grateful. This intentional moment of pause in our day gives campers and counselors alike a moment to pause and reflect upon the day. In the spirit of that daily moment during the summer, we asked some campers to share some thoughts about gratitude:
One of the things I am most grateful for at camp are my friends. Throughout the years I have been coming to camp I have made the best friends I know. They always have my back and I love them so much. I am grateful for the confidence and independence camp has given me. Before I came to camp I was very shy and was scared of a lot of things but camp helped me overcome my fears (especially of bugs) and taught me how to be confident.

I am grateful for friends. I am grateful to get to try new things. I know that my friends will support me when I try new things, no matter if I am good at them or not on the first try. At ALC, I have great friends. At camp, I get to try new things like horseback riding and sailing. I’m so happy at camp and so excited I get to go again this summer.
~ Emmy, a Ranger
I am thankful for the lifeguards who keep us safe when swimming in the lake. I am grateful for the counselors who get us up and running. I'm grateful for the kitchen staff who prepares us breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I'm grateful for activities that make me want to try new things. I am grateful for the friends I make every year, and I am grateful for Sue and Betsy, who make sure we are having a blast at camp.

These campers express the sentiments of so many of us who are touched by ALC. As we enter this season of gratitude, may we all take the time to appreciate the many gifts camp gives us both through our summer days at ALC and beyond. May we find moments to pause and reflect upon the people who help us each and every day. May we find the courage to be present in the moment with friends and family, and may we take the time to express our thanks to those who make a difference in our lives. And may we take all that we are grateful for in camp and share it with others to help make this world a better place!
