A winter path at ALC!
A winter path at ALC!

A cozy blanket of snow currently covers the fields, paths, tent platforms, and lake at ALC. And yet our thoughts are turning to the warm summer days that are now only a couple of months away. In the next few months, our blog posts will focus on various aspects of preparing for the summer ahead. This month, we are focusing on Packing for Camp

Not only will studying our packing list build excitement and anticipation of the summer ahead, it will help each camper and her family feel ready to go by the time summer arrives! Here are a few tried and true tips - whether it is your first or fifth summer at ALC!

  • ALC required official clothing: Our official camper clothing is available exclusively through Maine Camp Outfitters (MCO). We encourage you to order ALC t-shirts, shorts, sweatshirts, and sweatpants soon. NOTE: If you order BEFORE May 1st, MCO will sew nametags into your clothes free of charge!

    • The rest of the items on the packing list may be things you already have at home. If so, you do not need to purchase new ones for camp!

  • Returning Campers: How much have you grown since last summer? Pull out your blueberry blues and try them on to see if you need new ALC clothes for this summer!

  • Colors! Many campers choose to bring comfortable t-shirts and shorts in a variety of colors to wear as pajamas. You never know when you might need something colorful for a surprise camp event!

  • Stick to the List! Please stick with what is on the packing list. There is limited storage space in the tent, and the list covers all she needs for the summer at ALC. Too much extra stuff becomes challenging for a camper to track.

  • Labels! Please put your camper’s name on everything! We all wear camp clothes, so things can easily get mixed up. We recommend sewn-in labels on clothing. Sharpies and sticker labels can be used for equipment, books, toiletries, etc. Remember to use her first and last name!

  • Parents: involve your camper in the packing process! She will need to be responsible for her belongings when she gets to ALC. Helping to pack helps her accept responsibility from the beginning.

  • Shipping Information: If you are shipping your trunk to ALC, please be

sure to sign up with our shipping company, Shipcamps. See your Parent Handbook for more details.

  • Show Your ALC Spirit! Start wearing your ALC gear to get excited for the summer ahead! Who knows, you might even spot another ALCer wearing her camp gear!

We are counting the days until our campers and counselors arrive for the Summer of 2026! Please be in touch with any questions as you start to get your gear ready for the summer!
