At ALC, we have the opportunity to truly see the good that is happening around us every day. There is no question that we live in a challenging world, and camp gives us the chance to empower our campers and counselors to see the good in every day, and use that vision to help change the world for the better.
Alford Lake Camp is a joyful place! A camper recently said “I find joy everywhere at ALC - in the friends I have made, in the confidence I’ve gained in activities, and in the opportunity to learn to be independent.” Whether it is through the learning that takes place in an activity or in time spent developing last friendships, we witness joyful moments in camp each day.
We hope that by being surrounded by such joy throughout our summer days, each of us leaves Alford Lake Camp at the end of the summer poised to make a difference in the world. We believe that this generation of campers and staff has more potential than ever to affect their home communities in positive ways. If we can all make a difference in some small way, our collective efforts will affect the world. We recognize that not every moment is filled with joy, but we hope that we can all find joyful moments even as we push through challenges each day.
During this joyful season, our hope is that Alford Lakers, past and present, find and spread joy each day. Offer to help a neighbor, talk with someone who could use a boost of positivity at school, celebrate the good things you see other people doing. Together, we can make a difference in the world.
